Located at the southernmost part of the Philippines, bounded on the east by Davao del Sur, on the west by Sarangani Bay and on the south by the Celebes Sea. Glan is the 1st class municipality in the province of Sarangani. According to census it has a population of 102,676 people in 16,990 household.
Glan boasts of pristine shoreline dotted with stripes powdery white-sand beach resorts which is among the Philippines best beaches. Among the earliest Christian towns in Mindanao, Glan has heaps to offer both for tourist and inventors. Structures and archeological discoveries way back to 15th century make Glan even more appealing to visitors. It is based on agriculture with a high level production of copra and has survived the ups and downs of the coconut industry. However, manufacturing of coconut by-products continues to expand the demand for coconut surging in the wold market. The people of Glan also called "Glanians" are enjoying the benefits as investors are setting-up shops throughout the town.
Glan is composed of towns with idyllic coastal charm. The province is not as well as developed as Manila or Cebu, there are no big malls or busy commercial areas. Recently, Sarangani has become popular because of the world-renowned boxing champion - Manny Pacquiao won as it's representative in the congressman.
FESTIVALS
During the month of May, Glan hosts the Sarangani Bay Festival, the biggest beach party in the entire Mindanao. Tourists come and enjoy the calm waters of Sarangani Bay as well indulge in the fun the Bay Festival has to offer.
During October 8, Glan celebrates it's Foundation Day. It shows the wonderful and amazing beauty of Glan. The event will start on Oct. 1 to O8. Everyday there will be a program that entertains all the people of glan especially the tourists. In October 6, Glan will have a pageant called "Mutya ng Glan". It represents the gorgeous, stunning and intelligent women in the town. They will compete for the crown as the Mutya ng Glan. In October 8, Glan showcases the Lubi-Lubi Festival. There is more to the costumes, choreography and musicality in this yearly competition. The colors and faces of the Lubi-Lubi Festival reflect Glan's industry and tradition altogether. Almost 90 percent of the town's total area is planted with coconuts that's why the foundation day was named Lubi-Lubi Festival. Glan is also one of the oldest towns in Mindanao at 99 on October 8, 2013. Glan also known as the "Coco Queen of the South". Street-dancing groups compete in costume using indigenous materials from the coconut. Each competing group showcases a particularly old religious belief of the people about the coconut tree; animistic belief are brought to life by choreography in rituals of reverence to the tree as the source of blessing such as wind, water, rain, fire, good health and even life.
Many contestant will compete for the title but there is a school that always catches the attention of the judges. The Glan School of Arts and Trades who get the first grandslam of the Festival.
